History

The Desai family immigrated to the United States in the early eighties from Gujarat, India in the pursuit of new opportunities. The family’s early business ventures included drive-in restaurants and motels. Later, the family expanded its hotel operations to multiple locations and states. Currently, the primary business is the acquisition and development of individual companies.

Our experience in the hotel industry has given us a deep understanding of commercial real estate as well as an expertise in business operations and asset management.

Since 2009 our team has invested over $100mm in transactions which has propelled our vision to expand to other sectors where our knowledge could be applied to diversify the company’s portfolio.

Sunny graduated Summa Cum Laude from Mississippi State University’s undergraduate double major program in 2008 with an emphasis in Real Estate and Banking & Finance. After finishing Mississippi State University’s MBA program in 2010, he founded Desai Hotel Group at the age of 24. Sunny is a board member of Make A Wish Mississippi, Downtown Jackson Partners Advisory Board, and Young Presidents Organization (YPO). He is also a Mississippi Licensed Real Estate Broker and a Mississippi Licensed Contractor. Sunny has received numerous awards over the years, which include Mississippi Business Journal’s Top CEO Award and Hotel Management Magazine’s Top Thirty Under 30 Award.

Sweta Desai has served as the Chief Financial Officer of DHG. Sweta joined the company in 2015. A graduate of The University of Mississippi, she earned a Masters in Taxation in 2008. Sweta is a licensed CPA in Virginia and Texas and is also a member of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA). She worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP (PwC), one of the Big Four in public accounting, as a tax manager for more than six years before joining DHG full-time in December 2016. Sweta has experience in the financial services industry, particularly in real estate and private equity funds.

Trent joined Desai Hotel Group in March 2018 after being in the manufacturing Industry for nearly a decade. He has held roles in Engineering, Continuous Improvement, and Management. Trent graduated Cum Laude from Mississippi State University with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology. His duties include overseeing and improving Operations, controlling costs, and creating a Lean culture that is constantly striving to remove waste and achieve excellence.
